Medical Translation I translate a wide range of French and Italian medical texts, including medical notes, reports and correspondence, journal articles, documents relating to clinical trials, documentation for medical devices, SPCs and patient information leaflets. Creative Translation / Transcreation
I work on marketing copy, website copy, leaflets and brochures, press releases, promotional texts, advertising copy, journalism, and other texts requiring a particular flair for language. I have dealt with a wide range of subject matter from mobile phones to gourmet food to Magic: The Gathering, but don't worry - if something is outside my area of expertise, I will aim to put you in touch with the right translator for you. Subtitling I subtitle all genres of films and programmes from French and Italian into English, as well as providing subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing (SDH) and translation templates. See my subtitling page for more details. Music Especially texts about classical music, choral music, music theory and string instruments. I have been playing the viola for 20 years and am a regular performer of sacred choral music. Projects I have undertaken include two chapters from La Cour et l’opéra sur Louis XVI by Adolphe Jullien, discussing the composer Sacchini, and subtitles for an Italian performance of Verdi's Don Carlo. Websites As the voluntary webmaster for a mental health website, I have a good knowledge of (X)HTML, CSS and PHP and an understanding of good practice in web design. I am happy to translate your website either from copy or from the source code. Teaching I teach two subtitling classes on Leeds University's MA in Audiovisual Translation Studies. I have also taught translation MA students at Newcastle University, and recently gave a webinar on subtitling for eCPD Webinars. Translation Tools I use Wordfast Pro and Wordfast Classic translation memory software, as well as Microsoft Office 2007, ABBYY FineReader, WinCAPS subtitling software and a range of bilingual, monolingual and specialist medical dictionaries.
